The Diocesan of Portland has mandated a two-year sacramental preparation program for children to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. The Canonical age requirement for children to receive these sacraments is the age of seven, which is considered the "age of reason".
We offer Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as our primary option for sacramental preparation. For families unable to attend CGS, we also have materials from Dynamic Catholic entitled: "Blessed: First Reconciliation" and "Blessed: First Holy Communion". These materials would be completed at home.
Our Sacraments Masses will be celebrated in the fall and could be scheduled any time after the beginning of September. Eligible children would make their First Reconciliation in the preceding spring, most likely in April or March. Based upon this schedule, any child who would be seven years old on or before March 1 and is in his or her second year of sacramental preparation, would be eligible to receive Confirmation and First Holy Communion at the Sacraments Mass celebrated the following fall.
